Unexpected Detour: A Champion's Unconventional Journey
The Unfolding of the Flight Controversy: Tsarukyan's Account
UFC lightweight athlete Arman Tsarukyan recently found himself at the center of an unexpected travel drama. Footage circulated widely showing his removal from an American Airlines flight, Flight 513, as it prepared for departure from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Tsarukyan has since offered his perspective on the incident, stating that the chain of events began with a seemingly simple request to change seats.
The Spark of Disagreement: A Seating Request Turns Sour
According to Tsarukyan, he and his team of 11 were boarding the aircraft when he noticed three unoccupied seats. He approached a flight attendant to inquire if he could move from his assigned seat, 29A, to an empty one, as his designated seat was adjacent to a larger friend. The flight attendant reportedly responded curtly, asking about his assigned seat and instructing him to return to it. Perceiving this as rudeness, Tsarukyan opted to sit in an alternative empty seat, 30A.
Escalation in the Cabin: Beyond the Seating Dispute
The situation quickly escalated beyond the initial seating request. Tsarukyan claims that further interactions, including a teammate taking a call and another opening their tray table, drew the flight attendant's attention. Despite his teammate's compliance with the instruction to close the tray table, the situation culminated in Tsarukyan and two of his teammates being asked to deplane, a decision that American Airlines later attributed to customers' failure to comply with crew instructions while the aircraft was taxiing.
A High-Flying Solution: The Private Jet Alternative
Following his removal, Tsarukyan, who was en route to Philadelphia for a scheduled fight against Urijah Faber, managed to secure private transportation to his destination. This unexpected turn of events not only ensured his timely arrival but also became a point of jest. Tsarukyan later recounted that his teammates who remained on the commercial flight expressed envy, wishing they too had been removed to experience the luxury of a private jet.
